"Help them at home", we do it in Kenya

NGO Karibuni experience, not political boutade

30-07-2017 by Gianfranco Ranieri

HELP THEM AT HOME... it seems that now all the european parties have found, for a few more votes, the solution that should always be the most logical and sensible. We of Karibuni have really started helping home since we were born, we have built schools where today more than 5,000 children are studying every day, health care dispensaries and four local doctors supported by us visit hundreds of people each month.
Then the decision five years ago to try to create work, to produce food that was less and less in a land where it has not rained for more than two years .. and trying to prove today Karibuni has opened 6 farms that have over 500,000 m2 of land available, We grow vegetables, tomatoes, corn, we produce over 12,000 eggs a month that replace in schools the lack of meat and so much more. With this production every day 700 !!!! Children receive a hot meal, and will be 1,000 from January, and production surpluses will be sold on the local market at low prices. With this system we are already 50% covering all expenses ... no charity, but only engagement in promoting through the work the dignity of hundreds of people.
Difficult? Sure, but not impossible as we are extensively demonstrating.
Anyone in Kenya for a vacation can go and visit all that we do, have lunch at the Flora Farm, share with Jackson Kanai, the local manager of all these projects.
Is water lacking? We did a well and found water at 180 m and now all the farms have plenty of water and in the short term we could also potable part of this water to give people.
We do so much on education. Every year 5/7 young people go to the university thanks to our scholarships.
Grace Kwinga has just graduated in agriculture, has had a job right away and she has been responsible for two farms with all female staff ... she will be a sole women team and we believe in further developments.
We have just opened in Kilifi, the county capital. St Patrick catholic school, a large school that houses over 400 children.
The Archbishop of Mombasa, Monsignor Kivuva, Karibuni's old friend, wanted to personally inaugurate the school, another example of co-operation between Italy and Kenya. We want to do even more, but we need your help.
Last year, due to a very strong epidemic, 80% of livestock died in the interior of the coast. Also for us it was a disaster.
We had to stop the breakfasts for the kids because we did not have any more milk without animals.
Now with the water of the well we are sowing so much grass, we could have so many cows ...
We do not love the talk, if you want to help us really help them at home, contact us! www.karibuni.org
