Three more deceased and 25 new positives reported to the Ministry of Health. These are the significant data on the trend of the Covid-19 pandemic in Kenya, transmitted as usual on a 24-hour basis by the Department of National Health.
At a press conference on Thursday, May 7, Administrative Secretary Abdi Aman announced that the total number of cases recorded in Kenya since the beginning of the presence of the Coronavirus in the country has risen to 607, after 632 "targeted" swabs have been analyzed in the last 24 hours.
"I am saddened to announce that we have lost three more patients - announced Abdi Aman - two of them are from Nairobi and one from Mombasa. This brings the number of victims of the Covid-19 virus to 29. Fortunately, we can also count seven people healed and discharged, which brings the total number of patients returned negative to 197".
There are therefore 381 cases still active in Kenya, the vast majority of which are asymptomatic.
Of the newly confirmed positives, 21 are male and only 4 are female, aged between 8 and 73 years. Twenty-two of them are Kenyan, one Ugandan, one Tanzanian and there is also a Chinese citizen.
Nairobi, as almost always, takes the lion's share in the unpleasant ranking analyzed area by area, with 17 cases (of which 9 in the Eastleigh district which has been in lockdown since yesterday, despite numerous protests by residents, with a large Islamic majority), two come from Wajir County, in the northeast of the country, two from Kajiado and one each from Mombasa, Migori, Isiolo and Nakuru. In Mombasa there is another area, after the closure of the Old Town, that of Likoni, where you take the ferry.
The Administrative Director of Health has invited the population not to take the situation under control, because feeling good does not mean not having contracted the virus, and being asymptomatic can mean infecting others, even loved ones and the most vulnerable people, as well as spreading the virus more quickly.
Speaking about the cases of Eastleigh and the Old City of Mombasa, Abdi Aman said that the two outbreaks need to be monitored as well as possible, which is why the closure has been decided.
"I therefore urge the Kenyans to denounce anyone sneaking out of these areas," Abdi Aman said, "activities in the area will remain closed until normality is restored.
