Positive cases of Covid 19 virus in Kenya rose to 189 yesterday, with five new patients in isolation, all Kenyan and three of whom are women.
This was announced in the daily press conference by Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe,
"We were able to run 504 swabs in the last 24 hours - confirmed Kagwe - only five cases tested positive for the virus. Only one of the countrymen found positive has a history of travel abroad".
During his appearance before the media, the Minister then explained that three of the five cases came from Mombasa County while Nairobi and Nyandarua recorded one each.
This is the first time that the coast, and in particular the second city in Kenya, has been more infected than the capital Nairobi.
On the other hand, ten people were discharged after they were negative for swabs twice.
The number of cured patients has now risen to 22, while the number of those who succumbed to the disease still remains at seven.
During his speech, the Minister urged the Kenyans to use the transfer and payment service by telephone, Mpesa, rather than exchanging money.
"Despite the fact that mobile phone operators are increasingly facilitating transactions in digital mode," said Kagwe, "we have noticed that people are still disregarding and using physical money. Money comes into contact with surfaces that can be easily contaminated by the virus".
The Minister also announced that more than 100,000 healthcare professionals have been trained on how to deal with Coronavirus-positive patients, while 4000 doctors across the country have been able to update themselves through an app and will continue to keep informed through technology.
