ITALIANS

It is never easy, when we talk about Malindi, to define that of the Italians as a "community". The history of our presence, which is not that of real emigrants, has hardly seen a total cohesion as in other places in the world.
However, even in the past, in difficult times like the one we are experiencing (I am thinking of the Gulf War in the nineties, with air traffic blocked from Europe to Kenya, or the unrest after the 2007 elections) our countrymen and women have joined together and have shown that they know how to be a group, undoubtedly having many things in common and being linked, each in their own way, by love for this land that hosts them.
So in these months of "isolation" from the bulk of tourism and other compatriots, it is right to remember that there is an organisation created and recognised by the Italian State called COMITES (Committee of Italians Abroad) which has its representatives in each country and in several places where compatriots are located, within the same country.
As well as in Nairobi, where COMITES has a strong presence of entrepreneurs and also Italians who have been rooted in Kenya for many years and where it often works alongside the Italian Embassy to set up events and promote the Italian spirit and our excellence, Malindi also has its headquarters at COMITES and has as its manager a person who is very well known and very well rooted in the territory.
We are talking about Roberto Macrì, who is always available to his fellow countrymen for advice and support also in consular activities. The Malindi headquarters of COMITES is at the Honorary Consulate of Malindi, at the Sabaki Center, where Macrì has his desk.
Anyone who not only needs clarification or anything else, but also wants to bring ideas and help to unite and bring the Italian community to life through this institutional body, can meet Macrì in his office or contact him by calling the following telephone number: 0722825392.
