Coronavirus: in Mombasa no kisses, hugs and shaking hands

Health Office measures to prevent the outbreak in Kenya coast

10-03-2020 by redazione

In fourteen counties of Kenya, prevention for the Coronavirus emergency has already begun and the rules will be strict and to be followed, with possible penalties for those who do not respect them.
It is the coastal city of Mombasa that is the forerunner with a decree and related measures that leave no room for doubt: from now on, it is forbidden to kiss, hug and shake hands in public throughout the county.
This was announced by the Health Office in a statement issued yesterday, which cites the spread of the virus in non-European and Asian countries and the first cases in African countries.
The communiqué also called for attention to be paid to the state of health of the foreigners encountered, particularly those with oriental somatic features, and if the symptoms of Covid19 are detected in them, to alert the local health office. Citizens are also asked to provide themselves with disinfectants to wash their hands frequently and to use soap and water frequently, while avoiding contact with foreigners as much as possible.
In the meantime, airport controls are becoming increasingly strict and fewer and fewer tourists are arriving from abroad.
Also Kilifi County, like those of Nairobi, Kisumu, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Kajiado, Busia, Migori, Kakamega, Kajiado, Nakuru, Wajir and Garissa, considered the most at risk of infection, is preparing with a prevention and monitoring plan: in the next few days an official communiqué should be produced to be distributed also in the activities managed by Italians, given the high number of citizens present between Malindi and Watamu, but also for Germans resident or holidaying in Mwtapa.
