From Seven to fifteen. In two days the number of people infected with Covid19 in Kenya has more than doubled.
This was just announced by Kenya's Minister of Health, Mutahi Kagwe, at a press conference on national television.
According to Kagwe the new eight cases also include two French tourists who were tested in a hotel in Diani Beach. Structure that was forty, including 7 other tourists and staff. Among the others affected by the virus there is also a Mexican citizen.
"In the last 72 hours we have received confirmation of 8 other cases that tested positive for the coronavirus.
This brings the total number of infected to 15."
The eight new cases would be people between the ages of 20 and 57 who would have arrived in Kenya from Europe and America between 4 and 17 March.
All would have passed through Nairobi International Airport, Jomo Kenyatta.
The Minister of Health also said that the government is tracking down 363 people believed to have come into contact with the eight newly infected.
"All the patients, except one who is currently on the South Coast in Msambweni, are in stable condition. The government is arranging air transportation of Msambweni's patient to Nairobi for further treatment," Kagwe said.
The Health Minister confirmed the request to the Kenyans to continue with more conviction to exercise the highest standards of hygiene and maintaining social distance as the most effective measures to avoid contracting the coronavirus.
