More positives but only 1 death in the country

The day after President Kenyatta's announcement that he had in fact extended the main Covid-19 containment measures for another 30 days, Kenya had the highest number of positive cases in 24 hours.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe announced on Sunday, June 7 that 167 people tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,767.
Speaking during the daily briefing at Afya House in Covid-19, Kagwe said that between Saturday and Sunday 2,833 swabs were taken, bringing the total number of tests in the country to 97,340.
The Minister also pointed out that of the new cases, 125 were male and 42 female, with the youngest being only 11 months old.
In the same period of time, 46 patients declared cured of the coronavirus were discharged, bringing the total number of patients recovered to 752. Unfortunately, one patient succumbed to the disease, bringing the number of deaths to 84.
"The numbers - said Kagwe - are the result of the increase in targeted testing in the country, with 162 positive cases all Kenyan citizens. 36 counties out of 47 have recorded at least one case, while Nairobi has today recorded the highest number of cases in 24 hours, 54".
Other counties include Mombasa, 47, Busia, 28, Kiambu, 14, Uasin Gishu, 11, Kisumu, 4, and Machakos, 3, with Migori, Homabay, Kwale, Siaya and Turkana each reporting one case.
The Health Minister also warned people selling alcohol threatening to revoke their licenses permanently ("many people think the ban has been lifted, it hasn't") and urged Kenyans to continue working from home, despite the curfew being changed to allow a full day's work.
"This is done on the basis that the Kenyans are conscious people and intend to follow these rules," Kagwe recalled. "The more we open up, the more responsibility is given to our fellow citizens themselves. Almost 90 days have passed since the first infection and we are at a better understanding of these rules".
He also urged counties to ensure that the minimum 300 beds per county are reached as President Uhuru Kenyatta said in his speech on Saturday, June 6.
He also noted that the country celebrated National Cancer Survivors' Day, which is an annual event held annually worldwide to honor cancer survivors.
He urged Kenyans to avoid tobacco use and excessive indulgence of alcohol, which increases the risk of cancer, as well as succumbing to Covid-19.
