By now, the average number of coronavirus-positive patients in Kenya is seven to eight per day.
After sixteen days from "Patient One" whose tests revealed the presence of Covid19 in the body, today the Kenyan Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe announced eight new infected patients in the country, bringing the total number of positives to 50.
Kagwe pointed out that today the 1000 swabs analysed in Kenya were exceeded and that 1474 are the people monitored, including 231 who have already been discharged after the 14-day quarantine. Almost all the latest infections belong to internal Kenyan transmissions and not to citizens who have travelled abroad and this is what is starting to worry.
"In the last 24 hours alone, we have tested 172 samples - said the Minister - In total 84 samples of people already in quarantine have been analyzed. Within the latter we had the confirmation of one person who tested positive. We also tested 88 close contacts of the 42 cases already confirmed. Of these, six tested positive. The eighth patient was already admitted to Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi".
Kagwe also added that the state has undertaken to trace the contacts for the 50 confirmed cases, a number that amounts to 1,474 people.
Just over 1,200 people are under strict control. The eight new cases come from various counties, including the first in Kitui County, six others in Nairobi and one in Mombasa.
In total, to date, Nairobi County has 37 positives, Kilifi six and Mombasa four, while Kajiado, Kwale and Kitui each reported one.
