Fire at Sea View Resort in Malindi, just a big scare

Solidarity of locals and italians to extinguish flames

A fire yesterday evening at the Sea View Resort in Malindi luckily was tamed before it could attack the entire hotel restaurant on Lamu Road, run by the manager and Italian chef Remo Briziarelli.
The flames would seem to be off at around 6:30 pm by a short circuit in the laundry and staff quarters area and only two reasons did not allow them to propagate quickly to the rest of the structure: the roofs are not macut and at that time there was no much wind.
But there were moments of great fear for Remo and his staff, who rushed with tanks and buckets to the pool, awaiting the arrival of reinforcements, but above all firefighters who instead ... were out of order.
"It's amazing," commented the Sea View manager, "in Malindi, there was not a fire truck running that could come to our aid. Thankfully, we have done it thanks to the work of the staff and the neighbors, And many Kenyans who came to help. "
The Honorary Consul Ivan Del Prete also arrived quickly on the spot, and the Kilim Baharini motorcycle was coming, as the numerous buckets of water managed to dampen the fire.
One thing is certain and we had said it a few years ago after the fire in another resort, the Stephanie Sea House in Casuarina: every village and residence, and every public structure should have a pump to take water from the pool and Extinguishing fires, without waiting for the timely arrival or the full efficiency of local means. At that time, for example, Malindi airport cars, which were often replaced by emergencies at Fire Brigade, were not available because they were in maintenance.
"I will have to do the damage count," Remo explains, "but I want to go to the bottom of this story to understand why the short circuit that caused the fire started." Thank you whoever came quickly, but of course I can not do the same with Who would have to tame the flames with the appropriate means. "
