Highest cases in Kenya, lowest cases on the coast

If were two different Nations, tourism could reopen like Tanzania

24-07-2020 by redazione

Historical maximum of cases in the country, historical minimum on the coast.
What seems to be a paradox becomes instead a fairly truthful picture of the Kenyan situation, with Nairobi and surrounding areas under attack by the pandemic (although fortunately not dramatic for now) while the coast, if it were an autonomous nation, could probably reopen to tourism, as Tanzania has done.
From the data transmitted during the daily bulletin to Afya House, however, curves decidedly upward in Kenya, with the maximum number of positives in 24 hours recorded yesterday, Thursday, July 23: 796 cases of Covid-19 out of 6754 swabs analyzed.
It 'important to note that of these, 539 are in Nairobi and at least another hundred in neighboring counties, while the coast has recorded the lowest number for months now, only 4 cases all in Mombasa, despite the many swabs made for the reopening of hotels to employees, especially in Kilifi County where yesterday was not recorded even one case and from what results no hotel or restaurant that to reopen has complied with the rules of the hospitality protocol, has recorded only one positive case.
Now the total in Kenya is 15601 infections, of which almost half (7135) have healed.
Deaths, on the other hand, have risen to 263, after another three people were defeated by the virus.
The Ministry of Health also found that 90% of the cases recorded are asymptomatic and at the same time many of the symptomatic patients have mild syndromes and can be treated in suitable facilities but do not require hospitalization in intensive care.
In view of August, from Nairobi there are those who would like to plan a holiday on the coast but at this point it will be necessary to have strict controls by the hotels, because it is believed that a good fifteen percent of the population of Nairobi is positive and being asymptomatic, could bring to the coast the Covid-19 which would be harmful especially for the elderly and people already sick.
