Long weekend with some inconvenience for motorists in the capital Nairobi for the closure of the southern bypass road that connects Langata to Ngong for major construction works of tie rods and pillars of the new highway that will connect a part of the capital to Ngong Road, cutting in two the populous district of Kibera.
A freeway that has been in operation for almost a year.
The closure of the important city artery was announced yesterday by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, which in a statement confirmed that a section of the southern bypass "Lang'ata FlyOver" will be closed from Saturday 9 to Tuesday, December 12 next.
The road authority has announced that the installation of beams on the ongoing construction of the road link Lang'ata - Ngong Road, is the main reason for the closure.
Drivers are advised to look for alternative routes to avoid discomfort during the weekend. Closure will start from 6:00am to midnight every day.
"We appreciate the support, cooperation and understanding of the public as we seek to modernize our urban road infrastructure for efficient transport," says the official statement, signed by Director General KURA, Silas M. Kinoti.
Kenya's Minister of Transport James Macharia said that as part of this project the Ngong Road and Outer Ring will be significantly improved, as will the expansion of Lang'ata Road.
