Kenya is thinking about total lockdown

But no possible without a food distribution for poor people

Total Lockdown. In Kenya this is the most "clicked" word after Covid19.
For a few days now, the Government has been thinking about the next restrictive measure to be applied in the event of an increase in cases and especially in reports. The swabs available to the Ministry of Health should not be more than 30,000 currently, although the World Health Organization has promised others in addition to the 25,000 donated by the Chinese tycoon Jack Ma, founder of the online sales platform Alibaba.
In South Africa, where 28,000 tests have already been done, there are about 1250 infected, of which only 55 are attached to fans. But the country last Friday, having reached 1000 cases, has applied the total closure, the "lockdown" and is very scrupulous in applying it.
In addition to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Rwanda have already closed everything, and two days ago Uganda announced that it would do the same, unless President Museveni had second thoughts at the last minute.
The Kenyan Parliament discussed yesterday, Tuesday 31, the possibility of a complete blockade of the country for 21 days, when the cases come close to those numbers. According to Chief of the Department of Health Mercy Mwangangi, in the worst case scenario this could happen by the end of next week, or in any case by Easter.
The request of many politicians in parliament yesterday was to start thinking about food distribution for the destitute people who will find themselves without work, in addition to those already put in trouble by the recent curfew. Without food deliveries that can secure food security for at least 10Â million Kenyans, a complete halt to activities in Kenya is unthinkable.
In recent days, an official document has also appeared, marked "Confidential" directed by the Ministry of Interior to the county governors, in which the possibility of closure, subject to food distribution, was expected by the end of this week. Closure announced for 21 days. After a few hours, however, the owner of National Security Fred Matiang'i denied that that document was original. Although many do not believe it was a fake.
One thing is certain, the lockdown is a matter of discussion at the top levels of the Kenyan extabilishment and people are trying to understand where the appropriations will come from to guarantee a minimum supply of food for everyone. Already 21 counties have moved, according to the national broadcaster NTV, to identify possible food stores and distribution points, subject to law enforcement services to enforce queues and distances. It will not be easy to deal with an emergency like this without creating a riot and unrest, but it is the only way to avoid leading Kenyan citizens to hunger and desperate conditions that, in addition to undermining their health even more, could lead to violent protests.
Majority MP Kipchumba Murkomen was very clear: "If we think about activating a lockdown without feeding Mathare and Kibera," he said, "people will come out of the slums and come to Muthaiga and Karen (the wealthy people's neighborhoods).
On the side of the doubters, Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe warned colleagues and citizens: "If we are unable to enforce a curfew, how can we best manage a total lockdown?
In days, or perhaps hours, the possible decisions.
