Another 23 cases of Covid-19 positive in the last 24 hours brings the total number of infected people in Kenya to 781. Today's numbers, Friday, May 15, come as always from the media press of the Kenyan Ministry of Health, which is held daily in front of the ministry's headquarters in Afya House in Nairobi.
Speaking was the Administrative Secretary, Dr. Rashid Abdi Aman, who also confirmed three new deaths due to the virus in the country, bringing the total of those who lost their lives due to the pandemic to 45. None cured since yesterday, so the active cases become 452.
"Every loss of life in this period is a tragedy," said Abdi Aman, "and we pray that the Lord will comfort those who have left and let their souls rest in peace.
In the last 24 hours, 2100 swabs have been analyzed, practically a record. There were 18 positive cases of men and 5 of women, aged between 24 and 85 years.
The confirmed cases are distributed throughout the country, eleven in Nairobi, five in Mombasa, three in Kajiado (including two truck drivers on the Tanzanian border), two in Kiambu and as many in Wajir County.
The Administrative Secretary has recorded in the last few days a better approach by the population than the rules to follow. Now the controls will be extended to areas and neighborhoods in partial lockdown, to understand the evolution of the pandemic at the local level.
As for the hauliers, who protested about the long waits at the border, the Ministry of Health has recommended to arrive at customs with the "Covid-19 Free" certificates so as to avoid having to be tested on the spot and wait 24 hours or even longer for the result, since Kenya is not yet equipped with instant rapid tests.
