Malindi roads: recarpeting started from Marine Park

Contractor and engineers on site, with Municipality and associations

25-09-2019 by Freddie del Curatolo

The project to renovate the road surface from Malindi Post Office to the end of the Marin Park-Navy road, but in the opposite direction.
Yesterday Malindikenya.net was on site with the local associations PWAM and Malindi Residents Development Group, the engineers of the contractor company Equistar and that of Kilifi County, Dr. Kerongo, the Town Manager Silas Ngundo and the "mayor" of the city (here is called Board Members Chairman) Aliasgar Kassamjee.
A meeting on the field, with his feet on the asphalt still fresh in front of Lion in The sun, in which the engineer Kerongo and the company Equistar explained the timing and methods of the work and also went down in technical details.
After months of talks, consultations, expectations, prayers and a lot of time spent voluntarily and patiently to get to the start of the works, finally we are there and now we hope that nothing more stops this work necessary for the town and not only at the level of tourist destination.
Let's start by saying that it will be a real recarpeting and not just a covering of the holes, as you can already see from the first section covered, right at the end of the road of the marine park.
"We considered this first section as a test - explained Kerongo - and we are satisfied. We decided to leave the grass and plants at the sides, rather than making the sidewalks, to preserve nature and its beauty. But where it will be necessary to make sidewalks, as on the waterfront, we will do them. They are already planned in the project".
A project funded by Kilifi County, under the 2019-2020 Finance Bill of the Ministry of Transport, for over 1 million euros. Equistar has six months to complete the entire coverage from the centre to Casuarina, passing through the seafront, the Coral Key and the Mariposa.
"In the project is included the total remake of the road of the seafront, which is the most difficult work but that we expect to carry out before the arrival of most of the tourists planned for Christmas - explained the owner of Equistar, Mr. H., who is also a member of the team of the team. Fahid - in that section it will not be enough to cover the existing holes and level everything, before passing the next two layers of concrete and asphalt, but it will be necessary to remove all the existing and remake again, including the drainage system, which will have to be managed in conjunction with the project to remake the beach front, which in the meantime is proceeding and is in the hands of another company. The pavement will also have to take into account the project of embellishment of the entire area.
The last section considered in the allocation of funds already approved by the Governor of Kilifi Amason Kingi and presented during the inauguration of the works three weeks ago, is the asphalting of the road, until now unpaved, of Silversand from Mariposa to Driftwood.
"That is a real road to be taken from scratch, disconnected and full of coral - explains the chief engineer of Equistar - for that reason the timing of the entire project is estimated at six months, otherwise we could have promised three months to finish everything else. The important thing is to always have the money to manage five trucks of material a day, the work teams are there, we could even make a kilometer every two days. If all goes well, within the next week we will be at the crossroads between the road of Casuarina and that of the Marine Park".
