Nairobi is a hotspot, more than 500 cases in 3 day

Worrying percentage of positives on tests

15-07-2020 by redazione

Covid-19 is no joke in Kenya and the reopening, although it is a breath of fresh air for so many people who have to earn a living every day and who rarely die of Covid-19 (percentage remains below 2%), is spreading the infection throughout the country and increasing both the cases in Nairobi and the incidence of infected by swab, which has exceeded 10%.
Yesterday, as reported by the Head of the Health Department Mercy Mwangangi during the usual press conference in Afya House, home of his Ministry, 497 cases were recorded in the previous 24 hours. This brings the total number of positive cases in the country to 10,791 and the cases still active to 7572.
The tests carried out, 4922, however, are not only those relating to Monday, June 13, but also some of the previous day, when the results distribution server had temporarily gone haywire.
For the record and those who love statistics, of the 497 cases, 480 are Kenyan and 17 are foreign, 318 are male and 179 are female, the youngest is a two-year-old child, while the oldest is 89.
71 patients have been discharged and bring the total number of those who have recovered to 3,017.
Unfortunately, five sick people also lost their lives in relation to Covid-19 , bringing the total number of deaths to 202.
"We want to reiterate that this disease does not discriminate in terms of skin color, social status, membership of society, affiliation, religion or politics," Mwangangi told citizens during the speech broadcast live on television. "It is a disease that can affect everyone, regardless of who we are.
Concerns about the rapid growth of cases in Nairobi have emerged from the Ministry of Health. In the last three days alone, 518 infections have been recorded and 292 in the last 24 hours.
The distribution in other counties is as follows: Kiambu (62) Kajiado (51) Machakos (30), Mombasa (28), Busia (10), Uasin Gishu (8), Nakuru (5), Makueni (3), Narok (2), Meru (2) while Kakamega, Kericho, Kilifi, Laikipia and Nandi all have 1 case each.
