Now other italians wants to leave Kenya

New fears for non-residents in Malindi and Watamu

18-06-2020 by Freddie del Curatolo

In Malindi and Watamu there is still a not so sparse group of compatriots, almost all non-residents and in any case regular visitors of Kenya, who for various reasons did not want to take advantage of the many opportunities to return in the last two and a half months from Italy and the European Union.
Flights that continue (just today two are leaving: one from Nairobi to Rome and Milan via Doha, organized by Qatar Airways and one from Nairobi to Rome, via Addis Ababa) and that will be announced in progress.
In Malindi some Italians have "counted" themselves in an unofficial way (the Embassy of Italy in Kenyanon takes into account such "lists", but it always advises to send the usual personal form to the addresses indicated on its website, with details and reasons/needs of possible repatriation).
The number would still seem to be small to consider a new request for a state flight, but it is important to report directly to nairobi.fdt@esteri.it in order to be informed in case of flights from the European Union or airlines that I get permission to land and depart from Kenya.
You can't expect more special prices, because the times are more and more complicated for the flag companies and not and it's one thing to be sure to fill a boeing, another is having to risk the flop.
To those who have already reported the name, the Embassy is sending an e-mail with the following text:
Dear fellow countryman, in relation to your expression of interest in returning to Italy, I would like to inform you that this Embassy is evaluating, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the possibility of organizing a further special repatriation flight from Kenya to Italy, also on the basis of the number of requests in this sense by our countrymen who are still temporarily stranded in Kenya, updated to date. For this reason, we would be very grateful if you could confirm to us, by writing to the e-mail address nairobi.fdt@esteri.it if possible by Friday 19 June, your interest in taking advantage of this possible opportunity on which we will then provide further information if it materializes.
It should also be noted that on the coast some Italians are also trying to organize a transfer to the Tanzanian International Airport of Kilimanjaro through local agencies. But even then prepare for dancer prices that can range from 900 to 2000 euros for the Kilimanjaro-Addis-Rome return flight alone.
In any case we will keep you updated, also on our social pages, on these personal or group initiatives.
