Coronavirus: cautios optimism from tourism sector

"Airport checking and scan are ok, quick tests on"

26-02-2020 by redazione

While the Mombasa airport is waiting for the body temperature scanners that, according to the Health Office of the second city of Kenya will arrive in the day, in Nairobi the controls to detect and possibly isolate cases of Coronavirus on passengers from abroad are increasingly organized.
After the help of the World Health Organization, the offer of support from several NGOs including the computer tycoon Bill Gates, very close to Kenya and already committed to eradicate the plague of locusts, comes the support of the tourism sector, which is working together with the Ministry of Health and airport authorities.
"All passengers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi are scanned and those who present symptoms attributable to an affected state are isolated and subjected to intensified testing - explains the Kenya Tourist Federation in a statement released yesterday - there is a special isolation area that has been prepared for any possible suspicious case with the possibility of testing".
According to KTF President Mohammed Hersi, the specific controls are improving day by day and optimism about the ability to repel contagions also rises.
"There are 25 countries in the world affected more or less seriously and in large numbers by the virus - says Hersi - but to date in the African continent, apart from one case in Egypt, there has been no infection with the Co-Vid19 virus that has already affected over 80,000 people in the world, with almost 2700 deaths and more than 25,000 hospitalizations.
According to Hersi the figure is positive so far, because this time without emergency has given the country the opportunity to organize itself better and become aware of what is happening in other countries.
"Kenya has come to be able to carry out rapid swab tests to detect the presence of Coronavirus in suspect patients, and not only at the airport," continues the KTF statement, which also distributed an information on precautions to be taken to avoid the possibility of contagion.
In Kenya there is still calm and there is no rush to mask or panic in living together with the stewards, who are mostly tourists but who are also residents, while there is much more distrust towards the communities of Chinese who already live isolated from the local population and hardly ever come into contact with them.
