Curfew in Kenya: 60 more days from today

President Kenyatta declaration on restrictions

18-08-2021 by redazione

Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on Wednesday, August 18, the extension of the Covid-19 containment measures and in particular that of a national curfew from 10 pm to 4 am, for another 60 days.
The declaration came just after the Covid-19 Emergency Task Force (NERC) meeting.
President Kenyatta stated that the curfew hours in Kenya's territory will continue to be the same as observed so far, for at least another two months and that the measure also includes the 13 counties that previously had to accept a restriction on movement from 7pm to 4am.
All rallies and meetings, including political ones of any form and quantity of people are prohibited, while with regard to weddings and funerals, the number of participants is strictly limited to a maximum of 100 people.
Kenyatta also confirmed that burials will have to be conducted within 96 hours from the confirmation of the death of the person involved in the funeral and this will have to happen even for those who did not die from the virus.
The president asked that the authorities oversee even more decisively any infringement of the restrictions.
As for bars and restaurants, they will continue for another 60 days with the closure of the former at 7 pm and the latter at 9 pm. Places of worship will have to continue to comply with the rule that they can only fill their premises with one third of the faithful.
In his statement, which also coincided with a meeting of Kenyatta with opposition leader Raila Odinga and with representatives of the minority, Kenyatta confirmed the common commitment to encourage Kenyans not only to respect the protocols but also to vaccinate themselves.
