In the early morning of today, a fire semi-destroyed Terminal 1E of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
The Kenya Civil Aviation (KCAA) authorities posted the news on their X profile, specifying that it was a small fire that caused no deaths or injuries. However, the operation of the terminal was compromised and this has created and will create in the coming hours, perhaps days, inconvenience to passengers arriving and departing from terminal 1E.
Major airlines that are not affiliated to Kenya Airways and the Sky Team alliance are affected, namely British, Emirates, Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Ethiopian, South African, Qatar, Turkish, Ethiad and others.
For many, the frightful fire of 7 August 2013, which caused extensive damage, as well as one death and numerous injuries, to the capital's JKIA Airport and forced its partial closure for almost a year, has come back to mind. From there, the renovation and expansion of East Africa's most important international airport began.
