Official: only with ETA can you enter Kenya

Online visa only valid for those who have already done so

It's official: Kenya no longer requires an entry visa online, which is no longer possible to do, and has permanently switched to eTA, the electronic travel authorisation already used by other countries around the world.
As of last Friday, it was no longer possible to complete the evisa application at the relevant site, used through the ecitizen platform from 2020 until 3 January.

Obviously, the civil aviation authority said in an official statement last days, those who have already made the online visa and will arrive in Kenya in 2024 before its expiry date, which is valid for three months from its issuance to the date of departure, will not need to apply for the eTA.
Yesterday, Sunday 7 January, the Immigration Bureau announced that already almost 10,000 applications have been received on the portal that manages the issuance of permits to travel to Kenya.

"Of the 9,787 applications, 4,046 have already been processed," the Immigration Officer, Julius Bitok, told the media, "the others are being reviewed on a priority basis, based on the travel schedule submitted by each applicant.
Bitok added that the introduction of eTA was based on 'the need to have a fair, faster and reliable system that also responds to Kenya's security and other strategic interests'.

In addition to the need to match the directives of other countries, such as Great Britain, Canada and Australia, and similarly the United States, there is also an underlying economic argument: behind the proclamations to make Kenya a visa-free country there are almost mathematical calculations. Prior to the introduction of the ethA, citizens of 51 countries enjoyed visa-free entry to Kenya, while travellers from 155 other countries were subject to a visa application procedure costing USD 50.

In addition, children under the age of 16 were exempt from paying visa fees. Today, apart from citizens of Kenya and the East African community and residents or dependency pass holders, everyone has to pay the €30 plus fees that eTA entails.
The important thing is that as of today there are no more misunderstandings and hiccups for those who want to come to Kenya, they only have to apply for the eTA. The actual visa of stay, marked in the passport on arrival in Kenya, should be equivalent to the duration of the trip itself, indicated by the traveller's return ticket.

Obviously then the visa will be extendable as before, three months at a time, but to understand if this extension will have a price, we will have to wait for the pronouncement of the high court in Nairobi, which has temporarily suspended a government directive to introduce increases on multiple government fees and a cost of the extension after three months of 100 dollars (currently kes. 15,600).
