Brits lift the ban on their tourists

Now Kenya is safer for them, too

Kenya's coast is considered safer than it was a few months ago. British Intelligence, one of the world's most trusted investigative institutions, has advised its country's government to withdraw its "Travel Advisory" that strongly advised its fellow citizens against taking a vacation between Mombasa and Malindi.
There is no longer a need to close Kenyan resorts to the flow of Anglo-Saxon tourists because the terrorist danger is similar to other parts of the world (Egypt itself has suffered attacks recently and there are no vetoes for its Red Sea resorts).
In addition, the downgrade in alert status was issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), so presumably Australia and New Zealand will also follow suit shortly.
Here is an excerpt from the statement, "The Foreign and Commonwealth Office no longer advises against tourist destinations around Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi, while continuing to deem areas on the border with Somalia, around Lamu and the course of the Tana River, as well as in the Eastleigh district of Nairobi to be dangerous." All areas where, moreover, a tourist of any nationality would not dream of going.
This decision, of course, means not only that British tourists are free to visit Mombasa, Ukunda, Kilifi, Watamu and surrounding areas previously labeled as high-risk, but also that European Tour Operators who had closed bookings can resume normal operations, buy seats on charter flights and sell packages of hotel stays, safaris and other activities related to a stay on the Kenyan coast.
Rumors from Nairobi also dispense optimism about a future "downgrade" of the Farnesina communiqués on the "travel safe" website. In the coming days, Italy, too, may align itself in reducing the scope of warnings about Mombasa and surrounding areas, at least by making a clear distinction, as it should, between the border areas with Somalia and the tourist areas, where the situation has always been calm.
