Today's Kenya Song is called "Nice Place" and is a maasai song.
We know the story of Nice Nailantei, the woman who rebelled against female genital mutilation and made it a battle for new generations of Kenyan girls.
After becoming UN World Ambassador for Women's Rights and being named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential in the world, with the help of Amref who immediately embraced the cause, last February Nice started laying the first bricks of her dream, the "Nice Place". A college that will welcome and make study teenagers who will have the courage to say enough to millenary deep-rooted traditions that, unlike others to preserve, do not exalt culture, wisdom and respect for Nature, but are part of a sexist and ruthlessly primitive heritage.
Unfortunately, the pandemic has stopped everything and the village in the middle of the Rift Valley is still a mirage. What's more, this period of few trips, closed schools and curfews has once again led to an increase in cases of infliulation. But Nice is not in the habit of giving up and these days the bricklayers are back at work.
This is how hope is built in Africa, brick by brick, with patience.
It is the only way to change things.
At a time when barbarism and man's worst instincts, thanks also to the media and social limelight, have...
