In the days when we learn to live with English words like "lockdown", in Kenya one more linked to the seventies and eighties, or "blackout", comes back. The bad weather in the country has damaged this morning around 6 am an important pylon in the KenGen network that connects the capital Nairobi to Uganda, at the height of Dandora North.
"We had an unexpected criticality and our emergency team is already working, we apologize for the inconvenience and we will update you soon - writes Kenya Power & Lightning in its morning statement - we hope to restore electricity as soon as possible.
Later a video appeared showing the KPL technicians on pylon 26 of the national north line, unhooked from a helicopter.
Around 12 o'clock in some parts of the country the power is back on, but not yet in the capital, Mombasa and on the north coast.
We will update you accordingly.
