Covid-19 Kenya: the last bulletin

120 more positives but only 1 death

30-06-2020 by redazione

The Ministry of Health, in its usual daily press conference on Monday 29 June, confirmed 120 new cases of Covid-19 in the country out of 2221 swabs analyzed, bringing the total number of positives to 6,190, of which 4033 were active as another 42 patients were discharged and one died.
Administrative Secretary Rashid Abdi Aman, speaking from Afya House, noted that Nairobi with 67 infections and Mombasa with 17 have the highest infection rates in the last 24 hours. The other affected counties are Kajiado (9), Machakos (9), Kiambu (8), Uasin Gishu (4), Nakuru (2), Kilifi (2) and Narok (2).  All cases, except 5, are Kenyan, 84 of which are male and 36 are female. The age varies from 6 years to 83 years.
Almost half of the cases recorded since 13 March to date belong to the capital, although Mombasa and Busia are still important hotbeds. The latter county is worried about its 407 cases, with all that the checks on truck drivers crossing the borders started relatively late, at the end of April when the government decided to limit entry by land.
"These numbers suggest that it is only a matter of time before all counties register a case of Covid-19," said Abdi Aman, "although this should not panic us.  I urge the Kenyans to continue to abide by government guidelines and rules to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Ministry of Health also received donations of personal protective equipment (PPE) from the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) for distribution to various counties.
"In Kenya, our scientists and health professionals have worked to improve the knowledge of the virus in our local context," added the Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of Health, "and a collaboration with scientists and experts around the world has been initiated to explore various aspects of the pandemic.
