It could be an African Easter, the one that Italians are preparing to experience next April.
From the words of Health Undersecretary Andrea Costa, who announced a new measure signed by Minister Speranza, which will remove many restrictions still in force on Italian soil, the near future of international travel can be outlined with a little more clarity.
What is foreseen and what the Government has already hinted at is the end of the state of emergency, which will soon "turn two", on March 31. Obviously, the opinion of the Ministry of Health is fundamental: for the first time it has come out of the swamps of hesitation and excessive prudence, which have characterized its work at least in the last year, and has taken sides in favor, showing a surprising optimism, also motivated by the vertical decline in infections.
I agree with the end of the state of emergency on March 31," Costa said during the programme Tagadà on La7. I trust that it will not be extended and I believe that the conditions will certainly be in place".
The undersecretary reiterated that this is "because infections are decreasing and the vaccination campaign is going very well. It is necessary to give a positive signal to the citizens".
With the lapse of the national emergency, the conditions for maintaining restrictions at the national and, above all, international level will also lapse, as will the division of countries into "bands". It is likely to expect the same restrictions for all countries, taking into account those of the host nation and its numbers and percentages of infections, compared to those of the vaccination campaign. Among the cancellation of obligations there will certainly be that of quarantine on return from countries that accept the Green Pass and do not accept foreigners without a vaccination certificate. Kenya, unlike Tanzania for example, falls into this category.
In fact, the element able to put everyone in agreement on the axis of some tourist destinations, such as those already affected by the so-called corridors (Egypt, Thailand, Santo Domingo etc.) and those that are still excluded as Kenya, could be the booster.
In Minister Speranza's words, the third dose is fundamental to access all those services and possibilities that until today (at least on paper) are denied to citizens.
On the other hand, it is also possible a scenario in which it is only open to countries that are applying the booster for their compatriots and Kenya, since January 1, is among the few nations on the African continent that are doing so.
Arrival in Kenya could be conditioned only by the tarza dose, therefore accessible to almost all Italians.
"We are still missing 12-13 million booster doses - Speranza confirmed - If we proceed at this pace in 30-40 days, it is easy to think that by mid-March we would have completed the booster dose to 49 million fellow citizens. From there certainly will begin a new phase and as we have gradually introduced the restrictions with the gradualness we will begin the loosening of the measures".
It would be an excellent signal for tourism in Kenya, which would have three months to prepare the new season, reinserting its coastal destinations in the catalogs, restarting the organizational machine of charters and safaris and promoting the beauty that someone has temporarily forgotten and that many can't wait to enjoy. Starting with the great migration to the Maasai Mara in June. Also for the local hospitality sector and for thousands of Kenyan employees, it would be a return to breathing vital air after too much exhausting survival.
