MOURNING

How much he loved "his" Kenya can be read in the pages of one of his latest novels, entitled "Le bouganvillae di Malindi".
In 92, Covid-19 also took Nori Corbucci with it, the former wife of the great director Sergio and not only an appreciated costume designer at Cinecittà, but also a poet and writer. As was her nature, she fought the virus, but in the end she did not make it.
Until the pandemic, Nori used to spend a short or long holiday in Malindi every year. She arrived there at the beginning of the millennium, welcomed into the large Coral Key family.
I remember her being curious and interested, able to talk about herself even with me, who was an almost unknown person, and to be moved by the performance with the Mijikenda poet Kazungu Wa Hawerisa, whose story she wanted to know and who appreciated my translation of his lyrics.
Talking about his passion for Kenya and for social work, we especially remember the charitable initiatives in favour of children. In 2011, he had a bookshop set up in the village and sent lots of books to sell. With the proceeds of the books in the following years, he financed solidarity works for some children centres in Malindi.
The beach of Silversand and the atmosphere of the Kenyan town was also the main source of inspiration for what became her main passion once she retired from show business: writing.
Appreciated books of poems (already in 1981 her book "Beyond the Idea" had won major awards), esoteric fairy tales, biographies of friends and colleagues and novels: "The bouganvillae of Malindi" is from 2018 and is the quite biographical story of a group of friends in the natural wonder of the Kenyan coast.
In her adventurous existence, which has taken her halfway around the world, Nori, Neapolitan by birth but Friulian by origin, has been friends with some of the greatest personalities in show business, not only Italian, and leaves behind many dear loved ones, including here in Kenya.
