German suspected of terrorism arrested in Mombasa

European resident could have brought foreigners in Kenya

22-09-2021 by redazione

The Kenyan anti-terrorist police arrested a German citizen living in Mombasa yesterday, Tuesday 21 September.
The man, 58-year-old Hans Dieter Wilhelm Schwing, is accused of connivance with international terrorism.
According to a Kenyan intelligence report, Schwing is alleged to have facilitated the illegal entry of foreigners into the country through a service company of which he is director.
According to the national newspaper Daily Nation, the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU), in the context of research aimed at tracking down illegal foreigners in Kenya, has delivered a report to the Prosecutor of Mombasa, according to which the German citizen finances terrorism through his companies.
The prosecution believes that Schwing helped several foreigners to enter Kenya illegally, helping them to acquire legal status. Some of them were, according to the ATPU, involved in terrorism-related activities.
One of the companies, 'Scout Logic', is reported to be a travel and service agency that helps European citizens to enter the African country for unclear and undeclared business.
Among other activities, investigators also discovered that the German was the director of 'You Drive', an alleged driving school that helped foreigners obtain driving licences by subcontracting driving school operations to regular agencies.
