From today, the Kenyan national airline Kenya Airways announced the suspension of the Geneva-Rome-Nairobi flight, which was in fact the only direct flight that could have brought Italian citizens to Kenya. The decision was taken as part of the preventive measures of the African country for the Coronavirus emergency and following the announcement of the World Health Organization that elevated it to a pandemic.
Always considering that in Italy by decree it is impossible to embark to any destination for tourist reasons. But as we know, the Rome-Nairobi flight has always been used also by diplomats, executives, collaborators and other professional figures operating between the two countries, as well as by many Kenyans who have relations with Italy.
In an official statement, the national carrier stated that the suspension will be effective at least until next April 30.
"We will try to reschedule customers on alternative flights, we will extend a full refund to those who would like to cancel their trip or waive booking fees for those who want to reschedule their flights - Kenya Airways has made known, announcing that it will continue to operate other flights to Europe, in codesharing with KLM and Airfrance, but with operational and scheduling adjustments.
Kenya Airways also confirmed that it continues to take measures to ensure maximum hygiene and that the safety of passengers and employees remains a top priority.
It stated that it has activated its crisis management protocol to address any situations that may arise.
"We continue our engagement with relevant government ministries and agencies in Kenya and throughout our network and will provide interested customers with up-to-date information in a timely manner.
