Lack of water in the coast since last friday

Malindi and Watamu dry and suffering. Mawasco: "we are paying"

04-10-2017 by redazione

The long-standing problem of the occasional lack of water in the pipes has not yet been resolved.
And it is always in the low season that it creates problems for the population of Kilifi County and the tourism sector.
Since last Friday residents and holidaymakers have been completely dry since last Friday, and the situation creates problems especially in Watamu, where the density of public wells and unsalted water is lower.
The problem is always the same: the company does not pay the entire electricity bill of the Baricho pumps and filtering system, which is regularly blocked, until at least a part of the account is paid.
But in doing so, the remaining instalments are almost never paid in full and go on to raise debts that are then difficult to repair.
In the past, both the County Government and the Government of Kenya have accelerated the situation, but responsibilities have also rebounded.
"There are three weeks of continuing problems - some citizens have complained, when they go to MAWASCO's offices - the company has to settle with the electricity payments of the water distribution systems once and for all".
The Executive Manager of Malindi Water and Severage Company, Jerald Mwambire has confirmed to the daily standard that the current debt is 18 million shillings. "We have already paid 7 million - he said - and we will pay off next week".
It is to be hoped that you do not have to wait until Monday to get some water back in the area.
