The stoppage of travel from Nairobi to the coast has convinced one of the Malindi clubs that had lately been winning over the capital's clientele and domestic tourism to anticipate the seasonal closure that usually takes place after the Easter holidays.
Rosada Beach as well as offering the service of bar, restaurant and sunbeds on the beach, is known for its dance parties by the sea in the pleasant atmosphere of Casuarina. Last night was the last late afternoon and evening in merriment, from tomorrow the club will close, ready to start again in July with a hopefully less troubled season.
With the lockdown in Nairobi," explains owner Carlo Falco, "we have lost our main clientele, who have been particularly appreciative of our events and the restaurant's offerings lately. The idea was to continue until Easter, but in order to comply with the new directives on gatherings and situations of aggregation, we preferred to close last night our two weekly events to the sound of music that have been so popular with Nairobians, tourists and local residents. Tomorrow we will welcome those who want to spend the last drink or Sunday on the beach with a special lunch, then we will close the curtain on a season that we hope will remain unique in its kind".
No "Rosada Monday" then, neither tomorrow nor on Easter Monday. The closure of the Malindsian organised beach is significant because it practically decrees the end of the tourist season in the seaside resort.
