Travel to Kenya and vaccines: questions and answers

Updates on readers' main questions

10-09-2022 by redazione

On a daily basis, we at the Italians in Kenya portal 'malindikenya.net' and the Facebook group 'Italians in Kenya', continue to receive requests for information regarding entry into Kenya and subsequent exit for those who are vaccinated and those who are not.
Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Regarding Covid-19 restrictions what is required to enter Kenya?

To enter Kenya from abroad, certificates of at least two vaccinations are required.
These certificates must be uploaded on globalhaven.org after opening the relevant profile.

Isn't it enough to show the Green Pass?

No, the Green Pass is a tool only recognised by the European Union, to travel to Africa it does not apply, but the vaccination certificates with which it was obtained do.

Can non-vaccinated people enter Kenya? If yes, under what conditions?

Anyone can enter Kenya after 31 March 2022, even the unvaccinated. For them, it is compulsory to present a certificate of negativity to Covid-19 by molecular testing (PCR) drawn up no earlier than 72 hours before departure. Some airlines may also ask for a letter from your doctor or a health facility stating why you could not be vaccinated. It is therefore advisable to ask the airline you will be travelling with. Upon arrival in Kenya, antigenic tests may be carried out at random on the passenger, which, if positive, will lead to a PCR test. In case of further positivity, the traveller would be forced to undergo quarantine in the country for 14 days.

What is required to return from Kenya to Italy?

Kenya no longer requires any Covid-19 specifications to leave the country. In agreement with the airline, one can return without any such document.
