Vaccination in Kenya going very slow

Only 130K received the second dose

14-06-2021 by redazione

Only 130,000 Kenyan citizens or residents have so far received the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The figure was provided by Kenya's Ministry of Health as the country enters its most difficult week in terms of the health emergency. Doses of the vaccine are running out in almost every public facility, and new deaths are being recorded every day, with the percentage of those who have tested positive for the vaccine not falling below 5% for some time.
Just under a million people in Kenya, including citizens and residents over 58 or with major diseases, have received at least the first dose, but most still do not know when they will be fully vaccinated.
Yesterday the country reported 161 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours out of a sample of 2,805 tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed positive cases is now 175,337.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe announced 14 new deaths, but the figures are no longer relevant, because they even include records from last May. The number of deaths so far officially listed as Covid-19 patients is 3,410.
In the last 24 hours, 177 patients have been cured of the disease, 113 from the home isolation and treatment programme, and 64 from various health facilities in the country. The total number of cures now stands at 120,208, of which 87,401 are from the home care and isolation programme, and 32,807 from various health facilities throughout the country.
There are 957 patients currently admitted to various health facilities across the country, while 4,796 patients are under the isolation and home care programme.
In addition, 155 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 of whom are on ventilatory support and 106 on supplementary oxygen. 20 patients are under observation. Another 108 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 103 of them in general wards and 5 in high dependency units (HDU).
As for the distribution of cases, Nairobi has one third of the positives, Lake Victoria areas another third and the rest are equally distributed in the other counties.
