Kenya celebrates today by planting trees

President's Day for the Environment and the Future

13-11-2023 by Leni Frau

As previously announced, Kenya is today pausing for a country-wide initiative concerning the environment and the future of the planet.
At the direct instigation of President William Ruto, the government has decided to proclaim a day dedicated to planting trees, in keeping with Ruto's wish to grow 15 billion plants in the next eight years.

Environmental associations, schoolchildren and institutions, starting with the 47 county governments, will engage in the planting exercise, while at the same time identifying areas to be protected from uncontrolled logging and similarly invasive and abusive construction, which are not only undermining Kenya's sustainable growth and its forests, but also have a negative and obvious effect on climate change.

It is not difficult, on this day, to find a seed or plant around and someone digging a hole or watering the soil. There will be many tourists joining in what should become a national holiday celebrated every year and a good practice to be preserved.
Not least because, as those who propagate it in a serious manner teach, it is much more important to care for and grow a plant than to plant it and then disregard it. A bit like one should do with one's children.
