KENYA SAFARI

What an enchanted land the Tsavo savannah is after more than two months of heavy rains!
It has awoken from the torpor of a long dry season to dress soft, dreamy shades of green with expanses of white flowers, delicate climbing bells with pistils surrounded by purple brushstrokes, which open at sunrise and then close at sunset like butterfly wings.
An enchanted world that Mother Nature, spreading her embroidered bridal veil, offers visitors with delicate beauty.
The land teems with life, while the insect orchestra plays eternal background music, and has soaked up every trace of the recent rains that the grass is so bright that it looks phosphorescent, and in this incredible expanse the animals can now refresh themselves, quench their thirst and regain their strength. With the abundance, the struggle for survival is momentarily suspended.
The vegetation covers everything and the grass is so tall that some roads can barely be distinguished while the animals are hard to see, as if they were spirits. Along the dirt roads an infinite number of footprints overlap, but the green hedges are so thick that they engulf any animal. It doesn't matter: what matters is the comforting knowledge that they are around and that there is no shortage of emotions.
Hostages of a new beauty, you perceive as distilled, the strong and refined essence of the savannah: the air you breathe is joyful and you have the feeling of absorbing the whole universe. All around hovers an intense perfume of flowers, medicinal herbs, vanilla mixed with the smell of animals and the intoxicating aroma of elephant dung, sweet but at the same time sour, from the chewed shrubs.
The savannah lives, breathes, echoes with rustling leaves, animal calls and unfamiliar sounds. Thousands of birds fly frantically to breed or feed their newly hatched young, while black-nosed weaver birds flutter and build complex spherical nests with multiple entrances in the trees above their heads. Their chattering and sweet warbling enlivens the dreamlike atmosphere that reigns in the park where, in a completely unprecedented version for a very often arid Tsavo, one can 'hear' the mating of two lions but see only the head of the young male emerging from the grass with its ginger mane and cinnamon hues. It is also a spectacle for the eyes to watch a herd of impalas sprout from an expanse of white flowers and see only the ringed horns of the male while the females, with their gentle snouts, move about elegantly plucking flowers and tender, succulent leaves.
Some elephants tower with their huge ears swaying idly back and forth while their wrinkled bodies stand out in the flowery field like large rocks marked by deep furrows. They slowly extend their trunks, inspecting the ground with their tips, and then pluck generous tufts of flowering grass, rolled up in a bundle, to take to their mouths with satisfaction and happiness.
Well hidden in the tall grass, a pair of beautiful crowned cranes, with their brightly coloured plumage and golden crest, lovingly care for their two little ones born just over a month ago, two delightful biscuit-coloured creatures, so different from their parents. They drink at a puddle near the roadside, they move their wings in an attempt at a first flight, but their mother, with princely elegance, pushes them back into the vegetation, the only safe place that protects them from the many predators.
These images are so different that they will remain imprinted in our memories for a long time beyond the snapshots and the magical lure of the light and colours of those boundless spaces. After sunset, a violet-black sky bubbles with steam, promising more rain: the usual sounds of the night fall silent, but the frogs break into a deafening chorus, shouting with joy from every water-filled puddle.
The spectacle of lightning cutting through the sky, the symphony of mumbling thunder and the sweet scent of rain is a unique thrill of true wild Africa with strong contrasts.
