I should be the last to speak about it, having conceived, directed and conducted the show staged on Thursday evening in the Ukumbi Ndogo hall of the Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi, but sincerely, the Italian Language Week could not have been better celebrated.
In the presence of the Italian Ambassador, Roberto Natali, who introduced the evening by recalling the connections of our language in this country and its importance, also in relation to music, such as opera, an ironic, dramatic, romantic and civil excursus was staged, which from Dante Alighieri's descent into the underworld unwound through Baricco's imagined love, the metaphors for children and beyond by Gianni Rodari (translated into Kiswahili), Elena Ferrante's ‘amica geniale’, Puccini's Tosca, and Fabrizio De Andrè's tragically topical ‘Piero's War’, with the common thread of complicity with the talented Kenyan actress Wakio Mzenge.
An evening that could not have been so exciting and entertaining without the musical counterpoints created by vibraphonist Olmo Chittò, exceptionally in Nairobi thanks to the artistic residencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by cellist Masala Sefu.
