An Italian top chef at Serena in Nairobi on 3 December

An evening open to all to celebrate our taste and creativity

The prestigious Serena Hotel in Nairobi is organising an evening of fine Italian cuisine to mark Italian Cuisine Week in the World, featuring one of the “Ambassadors of Taste” chefs, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, the Italian Trade Agency in Nairobi and the Italian Cultural Institute in Nairobi.

A unique opportunity to enjoy a dedicated menu and a sensory journey through Italian flavours and combinations that enhance specialities often revisited with class and originality.

The chef is Vincenzo Butticè, a 53-year-old Sicilian from the province of Agrigento, chef and owner with his family of the Il Moro restaurant in Monza. Among other things, he has cooked for Pope John Paul II, former President of the Republic Scalfaro, as well as for several top-level Italian restaurants.

The Serena evening, to be held at the Mandhari Fine Restaurant on 3 December, will begin with an aperitif consisting of finger food, with potato, parmesan and pancetta, aubergine caponata, courgette parmigiana, mascarpone and basil mousse and olive and caper-stuffed bread rolls, followed by a choice of seafood or meat menu that the chef has entitled “Waiting for Christmas as in Italy”. The seafood menu starts with the perfect egg, celeriac and truffle pearls, followed by broad beans, fennel, squid and Italian caviar. The first course is a prawn, thyme and lime risotto, followed by a slice of fish “alla moda messinese”, sorbet with karkadè, sambuca and passion fruit infusion and finally “forgotten panettone”. .

For those who choose the land option, the alternatives include broad beans, fennel and smoked bacon instead of fish dishes, zucchini, lime and mint risotto, veal cheek with mashed potatoes and corn.

The price of the dinner is Kes. 9000 per person, after a welcome spritz , and includes wine tasting paired with each dish, starting with Trento DOC sparkling wine, followed by Vermentino di Sardegna DOC, Custoza Superior DOC, Etna Rosso DOC , Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Chianti Rosso and Moscato D'Asti DOCG.
