The first Saturday in August sees the return of the monthly market in Malindi at the Sea Fishing Club, where you can find a little bit of everything, but particularly the sympathy and pleasure of sharing a morning in pure 'Old Malindi' style.
The well-known fishermen's club, on the town's seafront next to the fish market, has long since taken over the legacy of the "Farmer's Market", the monthly event that for many years was staged at Driftwood on Silversand beach.
Tomorrow, Saturday 6 August, they will meet again in the sign of the exhibition of handicrafts and local productions of food and all kinds of fruits of the earth, of second-hand and recycled objects, but also of the creativity of those who, even in this not easy period, while waiting for the elections and the return in full force of international tourism, want to keep themselves alive and offer others something.
This is the case, for example, of compatriot Luigi Corticelli, who as a pensioner has chosen to pass on his love for Africa and that of his son Manuel, who died prematurely, by composing 'digital watercolours', choosing from the images of amateur photographers who have immortalised the beauty and most genuine and significant moments of life in Kenya.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the venue it will be possible to meet and drink a coffee together or, better still, a nice 'healthy tusker', wandering around the markets set up by the volunteers, with the possibility of buying bread, fruit and vegetables, homemade gastronomic specialities and much more, and then possibly stopping for lunch. Admission is free and the pleasure of being together also.
