INITIATIVES

Our "Festival di Sardegna Due" is now in its fourth week, with as many musical parodies to listen to in order to smile together at the paradoxes and grotesque sides of the presence of Italians in Kenya. Ironic stories, always with a grain of truth or extreme enough to show how Italian comedy, for better or for worse, has landed below the equator and offers hints of sarcasm and sometimes even poetry.
After talking about water, street food and stimuli for the elderly, this week Freddie and Sbringo's parody takes aim at wild building, but so wild that it almost becomes a mythological animal, the kind you only see in illustrations.
This is what used to happen especially in the past, when the low prices of houses, land and even a hotel were so tempting that some people from Italy bought "sight unseen", trusting their fellow countrymen who promised not only paradise, but also a safe investment.
There are those who have made investments since the 1980s, thanks to their flair for business and their belief in Kenya's development, but there is also a list of illustrious or unknown swindles.
Like the one recounted in "Il residenza che non c'è", a parody of Edoardo Bennato's song "L'isola che non c'è".
It is no coincidence that the Neapolitan minstrel was chosen to embroider on his melodies, because the Kenyan coast remains a fairy tale, to be sung in all its aspects. And as in the best fairy tales, there are good guys and bad guys, heroes and villains, turquoise fairies, witches and so on.
Then, as always, the Sanremo-style presentation: by Fredo Sbrennato, "Il residenza che non c'è". Sings: Odoardo Fregato!
Good listening!
