It would not be Malindi if there was no sun
Who also appears when he doesn't want to
Smiling behind low and dark clouds
Which raises rains dreaming a new heat
It would not be Malindi if there was no sea
The great ocean that everything can bring
Fish, seaweed, clay, novelty and misfortune
A ripple in blue with a thousand shades
It would not be Malindi if there was no sky
That you breathe dense and wraps you like a veil
Makes you feel like at the center of a painting
He tells you that you are alive if you are not convinced
It would not be Malindi if there was no nature
Fertile soils, fruit and vegetables
The changing bougainvillea and the scented flowers
The secular baobabs in cultivated fields
It would not be Malindi if there were no children
Between the dust, the grass and the mud of their destinies
With pupils dragged out of pure dreams
To laugh and play in the shadow of hoods
It would not be Malindi if there were no elders
Covered by kikoy, with eyes like mirrors
Straight back, wrinkles and tired face
Misery precedes them, dignity at their side
It would not be Malindi if there were no women
Mothers at fifteen, unaware madonnas
Between resignation, dreams, and missed opportunities
Hoping that a stranger would consider them different
It would not be Malindi if there were no odors
Bus discharges, armpits and sweat
The fish to be dried, the rotten fruit
The grills on the street, spices from the east
It would not be Malindi without the Italians
Exiles, tourists, hearts of gold or great ruffians
Who has chosen this place to live really
Who is still here because deep down is black
It would not be Malindi anymore, or maybe it would still be
In Africa, nothing changes or everything dies in an hour
Who knows what this land will be that has not already been
We hope to know about peace, nature and loved love.
