Short Bio of Freddie del Curatolo

Freddie del Curatolo was born in Milan in 1968. Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, a professional journalist since 2001, he worked at Corriere della Sera and La Provincia di Como before moving permanently to Kenya in 2005 and subsequently founding the Portal for Italians in Kenya, Malindikenya.net.He is currently a correspondent for the ANSA press agency and Radio Svizzera Italiana. He has published music books (the best known being Se mai qualcuno capirà Rino Gaetano, Ed. Arcana), novels (including La schedina di Gaetano, Liberodiscrivere, and Safari Bar GVE Editore) and numerous books on Kenya (“Malindi Italia, guida semiseria all'ultima colonia italiana d'Africa,” “Genoa Club Malindi,” “Sotto una lanterna africana,” “Malindi dall'Askari alla Zanzara,” “Mi faccio luce con la paraffina,” “Ti immagini l'Africa”). Together with Angelo Ferrari, he published “La pandemia in Africa” (Rosenberg & Sellier) and, with Leni Frau, the book “Nairobi” (Edizioni OgZero), which won the Volterrani International Literary Prize at the Turin Book Fair in 2023. The latter has been translated into English under the title “Nairobi, the visible city.” As a singer-songwriter, he released the albums “Nel regno degli animali” (Alambicco/Venus) in 2004 and “Esilio Volontario” (OrangeHome) in 2014. He is a showman, presenter, and performer. With musician Marco “Sbringo” Bigi, he has staged several theater-song shows about Italians in Kenya since 2012, performing them in Kenya and Italy, and has released the album C'erano una volta gli italiani in Kenya (Once Upon a Time There Were Italians in Kenya).
