EDITORIAL
10-01-2022 by Freddie del Curatolo
Unfortunately 2021 is no different from 2020, for the relations between Italy and Kenya, the tourist influx, the presences in general, the promotion of the territory, the investments and all the activities that concern us and interest our readers.
Our daily work is less and less remunerative and more and more a voluntary effort, a sort of "mission", waiting for better times that we don't know when they will come.
That's why, in the past year, you've followed our adventures as "wandering spirits" around Kenya, as we've tried to expand our relationships and earning possibilities, moving several times from the coast, and bringing the "trade" also to the capital Nairobi and other locations, from the slopes of Kilimanjaro to those of Mount Kenya and so on.
Unfortunately, the golden years of tourism will not return in a short time, we are aware, but on the other hand we feel the duty to continue to do a job that we believe is important for the hundreds of people who follow us every day and that, from the statistics we collect, not only Italians.
In addition to the work of information, promotion, and clarification that is visible on the site, as you know, we also work behind the scenes as an information "desk", a diplomatic dialogue, emails sent to the press, institutions and private entities, mailing lists, real estate and business advice and much more.
A job that, in addition to engaging two people daily, costs us in telephone, internet, travel, media subscriptions, equipment and more. Moreover, to be always "on the ball" and reach everyone, we are also adapting with video services that support the articles we write. As you can see, most online newspapers, blogs and agencies are now paid for. They ask for monthly or annual subscriptions to be read in whole or in part.
We don't want to reach these levels, in case we don't have more resources to continue to offer this service, we would probably decide to close down.
Fifteen months ago, when the lockdown situation had us by the neck, we asked you for a little effort, help in the form of a subscription.
I believe the time has come to show us again your gratitude for this service and the intellectual honesty we believe we are showing you.
As for the activities that until 2021 have supported us with annual sponsorships, we ask you to confirm their share for 2022, hoping that they will do it "automatically" by the end of January. We also ask the new realities present in Kenya, those of Nairobi and other places we have known, to join and support us for a new, difficult season of news, information, hopes of reopening. As always, in exchange we offer visibility and collaboration at many levels.
And to you, simple readers, we ask a subscription at will as some of you (too few, to tell the truth, compared to the 4000 readers per day on average) have already done in the past and sometimes still do.
