KENYA HOLIDAYS

The tourist season in Malindi and Watamu continues apace

Excellent projections until Easter, Italian businesses smile

19-02-2024 by Freddie del Curatolo

The rosiest expectations for the 2023-2024 tourist season in Kenya seem to have been met, at least as far as the two most popular destinations for Italians are concerned, Watamu and Malindi.
We of the Italians in Kenya portal have 'descended' from Nairobi in person, to verify the satisfaction of those who manage the most important hospitality and catering facilities in the two coastal destinations, and we were able to ascertain that not only did the winter holidays leave a very good memory (and above all takings finally returned to pre-pandemic levels) but that finally February also turned out to be a 'long wave' month, with considerable presences and flights still full.

According to the operators, then, even the next few weeks until the end of March, i.e. the week of Easter, will bring good numbers in anticipation of the highlight expected precisely for the Easter holidays, which at the same time will bring Italian tourism and local, Nairobi and international presences.
In Watamu, the great choice of resorts, boutique hotels, bed & breakfasts and villas for rent, combined with the growth of a whole movement of clubs, bars, Italian, international and local restaurants, chiringuitos and so on, has attracted a clientele of all ages and social classes which, combined with the 'all-inclusive' holiday people of the Italian tour operators, has caused attendance to rise to unprecedented levels.

This has raised the destination's esteem, but has inevitably also created a few problems that a successful resort must come to terms with sooner rather than later: we are talking above all about the sustainability of electricity and water supply.
But from the point of view of the holiday, the beauty of the location, the fun, the relaxation and fortunately also the safety, one can only be happy.
For Malindi the situation is different, in some ways complementary but no less satisfying.
After an equal Christmas and New Year's binge, the season continued with the traditional arrival of Italian pensioners, homeowners and even alternative tourists who always find in Malindi a holiday landing place that is perhaps no longer 'fashionable', but full of charm and opportunities, where a timeless Africa still appears, linked to the people who inhabit it with the peaceful mixes that still make it a place within the reach of human beings.

In this context, however, there remain excellences linked to tourism, offering impeccable service with the pursuit of complete well-being. Visiting our affiliates, Kilili Baharini, Rosada Beach and Olimpia Club, we realised that the presences are in tandem with the desire to always offer a Made in Italy devoted to internationality and not content with welcoming only one's own countrymen. If these places act as a driving force, others will rightly have to follow suit, as, moreover, the Minister of Tourism, Alfred Mutua, recently hoped during a meeting in Malindi.
In the heat of the coast, a nice breath of optimism for the Kenyan destinations that we have always felt as 'ours', and which are regaining their former glory precisely because they belong to everyone and to many.
