TRAVELS
20-09-2021 by Freddie del Curatolo
It will be a busy week for many governments of European states, grappling with the gradual reopening to many countries of other continents, to reactivate the sector of travel and international relations.
After the removal of Great Britain for the benefit of some nations that were in the "red list" (which corresponds to our "band E") including Kenya that was part of it, other states are about to decide whether it is the case to relax some restrictions that may allow its citizens to return to move freely outside Europe, only and always if equipped with green pass.
Spain has recently had two African nations, South Africa and Namibia, "climbed" out of the E bracket, considering the good relations and the weight of tourism in those countries, but also the efforts made to vaccinate the population, despite the fact that the percentages are not excessively high.
Kenya is not such a popular destination for Spaniards, but there are still many safari lovers and businessmen and requests will tend to increase as winter approaches.
The same thing is happening in Austria, where the government from October could remove the quarantine regime for vaccinated people returning from countries that belong to the "band E".
And Vienna should not be the only one to behave in this way. They expect in fact this week, as we read in various national newspapers, news from France, Holland and Scandinavian countries.
Italy has never shone in terms of initiative in this year and a half in which it has focused particularly on local tourism, once the lockdown is over.
But certainly, in order to save the economy of tour operators, travel agencies and all the induced activities connected to travel to long-haul destinations, something will have to be done.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health Speranza took time until October 25, but if in the meantime many other countries in Europe had decided to remove the discouragement of tourism in Kenya and the return quarantine for those in possession of vaccine passports, our government could turn to that option.
All that remains is to follow the European and international situation and...hope.
