Nothing is certain under the Kenyan sky, and it could not be otherwise in a country that day after day has to deal with exponential increases in the number of cases depending on the swabs carried out (yesterday 13% positive compared to the tests) and with a large number of politicians who would like to close the counties immediately.
The Governors, meeting in the Council two days ago, asked for this and the spokesman for the presidency, Cyrus Oguna, suggested it.
"President Kenyatta could consider closing the country at any moment," Oguna said, "and reconsider reopening international flights on August 1.
The idea, according to rumors filtering from the capital, confirmed by columnists of national newspapers and other statements by eminent personalities, is to wait for the development of the cases in the coming days and monitor the situation of health facilities, which are close to collapse.
The Government's idea, according to Oguna and taken up by the online newspaper Kenyans, could be to reopen on August 1 only to African nations and in any case to foreign states that do not have cases of Covid-19. In any case, the quarantine, according to Oguna but also for what in the continuous statements of the Ministry of Health that immediately disavowed the colleague of Transport Macharia, must be respected for tourists arriving from abroad.
So even if Kenya does not return to total closure, it seems difficult to be able to make certain plans for August, but above all to host tourists who at the moment are certainly not attracted to book a flight or think of a holiday that could be carried out within four walls of the presented home.
Surely the next few days will be decisive not only for international tourism, but for the whole Kenya system. Not to mention that for now even from the European Union there are no news and even after July 31 could be banned travel outside Europe and required the quarantine of return even from "friendly" nations.
