As of today, Saturday January 29, the Dubai-based airline Emirates has decided to resume operations between Dubai and five African countries: Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
In particular, the closure of incoming flights from Nairobi had been announced last December 20 and subsequently extended by a week until the indefinite decision at the beginning of 2022, which had upset the Kenyan government to the point that, in retaliation, the Nairobi airport was also closed to Emirates flights arriving from Dubai, which caused dozens and dozens of connections and bookings from Europe to be cancelled, forcing the company to compensate or keep its customers on stand-by.
As regards the return to Kenya, Emirates will operate 10 weekly flights to Nairobi, while on Ethiopia the connections to Addis Ababa will operate every day from tomorrow, Sunday 30 January.
The recovery also concerns Tanzania, with five weekly flights, starting from Sunday, January 30, to Dar Es Salaam, while six will be the weekly flights to Harare in Zimbabwe, connected to the service to Lusaka, always from January 30.
A 48-hour PCR test is required of all passengers traveling from the African continent with Emirates and with Dubai as their final destination. Passengers must present a valid Covid-19 negative PCR test certificate with a QR code for a test conducted at an authorized facility, and validity must be calculated from the time the sample is taken.
Upon arrival in Dubai, passengers will undergo an additional Covid-19 PCR test and remain in quarantine until test results are received.
