Disruption is expected for those flying to Kenya or from Kenya to Italy with airlines based in the United Arab Emirates.
Not only Qatar Airways, which was the first to close its airspace in Doha after Iran's missile attack on the American base in its state, but also airlines based in Dubai, namely Emirates and its low-cost carrier, Fly Dubai.
Of course, the evolution of this unexpected war is changing every scenario and throwing all predictions out of the window. We will have to follow events hour by hour, attack after response, to understand how and if to travel in the coming days, and perhaps in the coming weeks.
All three airlines have scheduled connections with Milan and Rome and other airports, as well as many other connections. The possibility of being “hosted” by other airports and changing routes is currently being explored. Jeddah in Saudi Arabia is being considered, but also Cairo.
In the meantime, however, for those who have to depart or arrive today or in the coming days, there will certainly be problems, cancellations or rebookings on other airlines that are part of their alliances.
For now, the news is that Qatar's airspace is closed, and this may also affect other airlines that use not only Doha's airspace but also that of neighbouring Arab states.
Updates will follow as soon as possible.
