The Tanzanian government has given the green light to the Tanzania National Parks Authority for the tender to build a funicular railway on Mount Kilimanjaro.
The mountain symbol of Africa, the highest on the continent, with its 5985 meters above sea level, can be explored by cable car and not only by the more than 50,000 mountaineers who every year attempt to reach the three most important peaks of the great volcanic agglomeration on the border between Tanzania and Kenya.
Tanzania's Deputy Minister of Tourism and Natural Resources, Mary Masanja, confirmed that there is already a project and that work will begin soon.
"The cable car will be used mainly by tourists and enthusiasts who for various reasons cannot reach the mountain peaks on foot - said Masanja - we are on track to start as soon as possible."
It's exactly one year that in Dodoma, Tanzania's administrative capital, there has been talk of approving the installation of a people mover on Kilimanjaro. The installation had already been formally approved, now Tanzanian National Conservation Commissioner Paul Banga has finally announced that all obstacles have been overcome. Official green light to the works that will change forever tourism on the famous "slopes" and will surely bring many more travelers from all over the world to discover its high altitude landscapes.
