Back to Italy, three solutions

18th june a KQ flight to London, then...

11-06-2020 by redazione

The latest extension of the Kenyan government regarding the country's restrictions for the Covid-19 emergency, with the reopening of international air traffic postponed until July 6, in addition to many tourists and temporary residents in Italy, has displaced a few dozen other countrymen resident or holidaymakers in Kenya who have in turn benefited from the extension of their visas, after the 6 months (3+3) of practice.
While for those who want to enter Kenya from abroad there is very little to do, at present, for compatriots who want to return to Italy on the horizon appear for now two solutions.
The first, simplest, is a special flight of Ethiopian Airlines, departing next Monday, June 15 from Nairobi and destination Addis Ababa, from where there are direct flights to Italy.
Tickets can be booked now on https://www.ethiopianairlines.com/aa/special-offer?Key=Ethiopian-Repatriation-Flight .
The cost of the ticket from Nairobi to Addis is 800 USD.
For further information and assistance, you can contact the airline at the Kenyan numbers 0723 786 649, 0734 666 066 and 0733 666 061 from Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am to 4 pm.
The Embassy of Italy in Kenya points out that from Addis Ababa are active air connections to Italy with the same company, which can be purchased at the following link: www.ethiopianairlines.com.
However, it is suggested to check the availability, in advance of the possible purchase of the flight to Addis Ababa.
The second is the special flight of the airline Kenya Airways, departing next Thursday, June 18 from Nairobi at 9.20 a.m. and arriving at 4.15 p.m. in London, from where there are direct and indirect flights to Italy.
As pointed out by the Embassy of Italy in Kenya, through its official website, tickets can be booked now on www.kenya-airways.com/en-uk/charter-flights or by calling +254 711024747.
It is essential to know that in order to be able to board the above mentioned flight, you must first undergo laboratory tests to test negativity to COVID-19 within 72 hours of departure. To this end, ticket holders will be able to go to the laboratory centres authorised in Kenya to carry out these tests.
Our Embassy also points out that from London there are air connections to Italy. It suggests, however, to check availability, in advance of the eventual purchase of the flight to London, as well as to consult the websites and social profiles of the Embassy and Consulate General of Italy in London @italyinuk @italyinLDN https://amblondra.esteri.it https://conslondra.esteri.it/consolato_londra/it/.
With regard to any travel on Kenyan territory to reach Nairobi airport, it is recommended that you contact this Embassy immediately after purchasing your ticket, in order to facilitate obtaining the necessary authorization to travel between counties.
In case of group travel, in particular from the coast, these may be coordinated with other European Embassies.
Please remember that you can contact the Embassy at the following emergency number: +254 722514327
The second solution, more daring but possible, is to go to Tanzania, precisely to Dar Es Salaam, where the flight Su Addis Ababa with direct connection to Rome has been operating since the last few days. To go to Tanzania it is advisable to move with a Kenyan transfer to the border (Lungalunga for those coming from the coast, Taveta or Namanga for those coming from the North) and then book the same service from Tanzania. From the border you can reach Dar Es Salaam in about seven hours.
To enter Tanzania you only need the Covid-19 Free certificate and no quarantine is required. From Kilifi County you can't cross Mombasa County, so you can get to Mariakani and then go to Kwale County through the Mariakani-Kinango road (about 60km of dirt road, the rest is all asphalt). And the early return to Italy can also become a small safari...
