Another 25 cases of Covid-19 positive in Kenya in the last 24 hours brings the total number of infected people just under 500 with active cases approaching 300.
Exactly 293 positives have been treated or followed up at home and quarantine facilities across the country, plus 24 people who have died (no new cases in the last 24 hours) and 173 patients who have been discharged, with six new patients cured since yesterday.
In the usual statement made to the press and media at Afya House, home of the Kenyan Ministry of Health, today Monday, May 4, the Secretary General of the Department of Health, Mercy Mwangangi, who confirmed the data, reporting that in the last 24 hours 1012 swabs have been performed in different counties of Kenya.
All 25 new positives are Kenyan, thirteen of them are male and 12 female.
The two main Kenyan cities, Nairobi and Mombasa, share the cases of Covid-19: 15 in the capital and 10 in the port city. There is a wide age group affected by the virus, the youngest being a six-month-old infant, the oldest being a sixty year-old man.
Cases in Nairobi have been recorded in working-class neighbourhoods such as Eastleigh (8), Kawangware (2), Umoja (2), Kahawa West and Kariobangi South (one each), with a positive in the Mathare slum.
In Mombasa, instead, they come from the Old City (8), Bombolulu and Jomvu (one each).
"We renew the request to observe social distances and wash our hands frequently and to continue to leave the house only when necessary - said Mwangangi - I turn to the sellers who must make sure that the customer has the mask, before dealing with him. We have also noticed that there are sellers who continue to allow people to wear more than one mask at the time of purchase. This is a dangerous practice and can lead to mass infection.
