The government is happy with the Kenyan doctors on all fronts and avoids repeated protests that would have led to a general strike. Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe has satisfied the categories of health workers in the front line for the care and containment of the Covid-19, initiating the processes of insurance, compensation and supplies of protective materials for a total manoeuvre of almost 10 billion shillings.
Meanwhile, at the same time, and this is no coincidence, the country is recording record discharges of patients who were in home care and still positive. According to the data of the Administrative Director of Health Abdì Aman, 11,177 healed patients were in isolation at home, in addition to another 147 discharged from hospital facilities. The number of active cases in view of Christmas is therefore falling, there are now only 17065. Of the latter, 1,200 are hospitalised in various health structures throughout the country, while another 7,755 cases of isolation and care at home.
There are 73 patients in intensive care (ICU), 41 of whom are treated with supplementary oxygen and 16 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
On the new cases front, the percentage does not change compared to yesterday, we are still just over 12%. In the last 24 hours Kenya has recorded 1,253 positive cases of Covid-19, with the country's total rising to 86,383 cases. Unfortunately, 16 patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,500.
Distribution by counties, Nairobi leads with 326 cases followed by Mombasa 145, Kilifi 105, Kiambu 86, Murang'a 67, Meru 45, Kirinyanga 43, Makueni 36, Migori 35, Embu 34, Laikipia 32, Nakuru 26, Machakos 25, Kitui 24 and Taita Taveta 20.
Bungoma County recorded 19 cases, Siaya 18, Lamu 17 and Nyeri 17, Uasin Gishu 14, Kajiado 13, Garissa 13, Kisumu and Nandi 12, Tharaka Nithi and Bomet 11, Homa Bay 10 and Busia 7. In Kwale, Kakamega and Samburu counties six cases were reported, Nyandarua 5, Kericho 4, Isiolo 3 and Turkana 2.
